Bonnie & the Mere Mortals
Made up of four Pittsburgh musicians from vastly different backgrounds, Mere Mortals is the product of songwriter Bonnie Ramone’s attempt to rationalize the dichotomy of the farm in a backwoods coal town she grew up on with the Goth scene she used to “make it out” and into the city. Blending Appalachian folk with a mixture of New Wave, industrial, and shoegaze, Mere Mortals is self-described as “Southern Gothic.” The band is made up of guitarist and banjo player Bonnie, guitarist and synth player Destin LeCornu, upright bassist Mike Simms, and synth and beat maker Sam Phillips; all of them lending their own vocal stylings. Each musician adds their own unique flair to the juxtaposition of analog and digital that sounds fresh, yet catchy and eeriely familiar. After returning to songwriters like Gillian Welch, Bonnie realised Depeche Mode and Nick Cave might have more in common with Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash than one might think; Heartbreak, drugs, murder ballads, depression, love, the color black... the stories stay the same. Jessa Kenzi
Jessa Kenzi is an up and coming Singer/Songwriter from Pittsburgh, PA. Jessa started singing at the age of 5, and has never stopped. She is self taught on piano and guitar. When she was 6 years old, her Pap told her he wanted her to learn to play the piano. Determined to make him proud, she learned to play “Fur Elise” by ear, which she would play constantly. This is when her love for music really began. Over the years, she has been in numerous local singing competitions and musicals. At the age of 11, she sang the National Anthem for the first time for the Fort Armstrong Rodeo in Ford City, PA. She started writing her own songs in 2018. One day, she just sat down, and started to reflect on her past experiences in her life, and just started writing songs and lyrics, and the melodies began to flow. Her songs and lyrics are based on her real life experiences of family relationships, friends, and of course, herself. She has a life long dream of singing and songwriting. She says it’s in her blood, and she will never stop doing what she loves. Music is, truly, her escape. Her dream and ultimate goal has always been to have a career in music. Her Pap always called her his Little Star, and since his passing, she feels music connects her to him. She hopes he is looking down proud as he can be of her accomplishments. Tim Vitullo
Tim Vitullo is a bit different. A promising singer, guitarist, and songwriter, Vitullo decided to return home to both Pittsburgh, PA and his blues influences to record "Josephine & Assorted Train Songs," his debut studio LP. This comes after poising himself as an exciting, young jazz artist in State College, PA with the release of "This is the Thing!" in 2012. With his latest statement, Vitullo mixes the best of his blues, rock, and pop influences to present a dozen examples of "adult alternative album rock." Songs like “Josephine” are concise and accessible with a smooth delivery and a sly sense of humor. Ballads “Letters” and “A Different Kind of Blue” are earnest experiments in confessional-style songwriting flanked by dense vocal and horn arrangements. Further, burners “Interstate Jesus,” “Black & White Wonderful,” and “Pretty Good” flash the guitar prowess that has been Vitullo’s calling card since his earliest musical ventures. "Josephine & Assorted Train Songs" was produced, engineered, and mixed by singer/songwriter and producer Steven Foxbury in Pittsburgh, PA.
